2 Ways To Keep Your Sewer Pipes From Getting Clogged

Posted on: 19 December 2016

A clogged sewer line can be a huge problem. If your sewer line does get blocked, you need to have a pipe cleaning company come in to clean it out so that your waste water can get out of your house and to the main line so that it can get to the waste water facility. There are things that you can do that will help to keep the sewer line from getting blocked

Don't Believe in Flushables

There are a lot of products that say that they are flushable. However, they really aren't. The issue with those flushable products is that they don't break down the same way that toilet paper does. If you've ever accidentally gotten a roll of toilet paper wet, you probably noticed that paper starts to break down pretty quickly. It does the same thing in the sewer lines. The flushable wipes, whether they are used for personal hygiene reasons or for cleaning reasons, just don't do that. That allows them to create a huge blockage in your sewer lines. As they start clogging your pipes, they will give other solids a place to grab on to, which will cause the blockage to just get bigger.

Get Rid of Grease

You may be tempted to wash grease down your drains, but you don't really want to do that. Even if you pour hot grease down the sink and follow it up with cold water to push it down the pipes, at some point it will solidify. When it does, it will cling on to anything it can find on the sides of your pipes. The sticky, nasty grease can grab on to other solids as they go past. All that can cause your pipes to narrow, which will eventually cause the pipes to be completely shut so that nothing can get past. When that happens, your sewer line can back up into your house, which will make a huge mess that will cost you a lot of time and money to get it cleaned up and fixed.

If your sewer line does get blocked, despite your best efforts, you are going to need to contact a commercial sewage service company that cleans out pipes. One way that they can clean out your pipes is by sending a tool down your pipe that has an auger on it. The auger will drill through the clog and break it up so that the stuff blocking your pipes will break up and move on down your pipes.
